Buxton Soroptimists’ newly elected President Deborah Ward took her first Business meeting on Zoom this week.

Climate Change was high on the agenda, and all Soroptimists pledge to do what they can to improve their localities across the world. This year Soroptimists worldwide will celebrate their 100th anniversary. Members work locally, nationally and internationally.  Soroptimist International has United Nations status.

Buxton Soroptimists come from all over the High Peak and  Derbyshire Dales, as well as having members from Sheffield , Staffordshire Moorlands and Leek . New members are always welcome.

The work they undertake is varied.

The Midland East Region (which includes Buxton) has recently donated over £1000 towards the Indian Soroptimists’ COVID fund.

As part of the Environment and Climate Change project, the Buxton ladies will be involved with tree planting. Their Garden Trail will take place later in the year, which will raise funds for further work.

The support of the Crossroads refuge for women victims of domestic violence continues.
